The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, today announced the programming that is inaugurated on Saturday the Contemporary Art Center 'La Conservera', a space with 4,800 square meters of exhibition space that was founded with the aim of becoming a point meeting of international art.
The new center, Cruz said, "purports to be a fundamental part of a cultural project, which is defined primarily by the experimental.
Our idea is to make the Murcia Region a laboratory for culture. "
The presentation ceremony was attended by the four artists who open this program, Manu Arregui, Banks Violette, Loris Gréaud and Björn Dahlem, and Fernando de Retes architect in charge of remodeling the building.
This space, which takes its name from the old building's use as cannery, "intended to be a sustainable center, meaning far beyond that usually gives this concept," said the counselor.
Thus "opposed to the rigidity of many contemporary art spaces, this will be characterized by a certain lightness and flexibility, where the most important thing is going to be programming and discourse, and which tends to downplay all that monumental is the structure and scope of administrative management that makes cultural spaces often become almost unassimilable structures and difficult to move, this lightness in the structure is what will make it sustainable. "
In terms of programming, which have been responsible for art directors and Pablo del Val Rocío Badin, the Minister of Culture said "is another important factors for sustainability" while "will be thickened mainly by local artists and international operate mostly in a range in age from 30 to 40 years, and still not part of the 'star system' international, if we consider as 'star system' a number of sacred cows that sometimes capitalized across the international spectrum, but nevertheless already have an established track record, a language well defined and highly contrasted critical assessment. "
In addition, samples will be held at The Conservera have a "predominantly visual component to the exhibitions give a playful, play, interaction."
Canning is also the central "organizing and structuring of the entire exhibition policy in the region" so that "will be responsible for generating the largest program of all regional divisions and determine the logical exposition of each of the spaces are there in the Community. "
The Canning is also intended as a training facility, incorporating the young talents of the region.
Thus, it has reached an agreement with the Department of Fine Arts, University of Murcia "to engage students in the form of scholarships, and get involved in this whole project, it aims to be rooted in the fabric cultural and micro politics of the region. "
Programming
The programming consists of several cycles of self-produced four exhibitions that are displayed simultaneously.
Each cycle will consist of parallel exhibitions, usually for four artists who share common concerns, so that the path between them is continuous and logical.
This allows them to analyze some concepts from different points of view.
Similarly, do not make a commitment to a specific artistic medium, whether painting, sculpture, photography or another, but on the contrary, it encourages the continued questioning of the disciplines.
The first cycle, which opens to the public on May 17, features presentations by artists Manu Arregui, Banks Violette, Loris Gréaud and Björn Dahlem.
These four artists share common concerns and interests such as entertainment, science fiction, music, or the excesses of youth culture.
Arregui present his largest installation to date, with the central axis his latest video work, 'Streaming'.
Banks Violette and Loris Gréaud will have their first solo exhibition in our country.
In the first case there will be two large format structures, like a black mirror, and his first video, projected on a source of water vapor.
Loris Gréaud show the final chapter of the series 'Cellar Door', entitled 'Best after the end', a project that began in the Palais de Tokyo (Paris) and continued in the ICA (London) and the Kunsthalle St. Gallen ( Switzerland).
Finally, Björn Dahlem will hold its first exhibition in a national public space, giving a spacecraft, a constellation of large format and a series of video projections.
Each of these four exhibitions will be accompanied by a self-produced publication.
