The City of Ceuta, through its Department of Agriculture, will request the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS) compensation for damages by the recent flooding in the area of ​​El Soto, situated in the hamlet of Los Torrao.

"The Segura river flooded as a result of flooding caused by recent rains, a situation that we warned more than two years that could be very dangerous for the environment," explains area councilor, Jesus Hernandez, who already begun meetings with affected farmers to inform them of the situation.

And it is that in early 2013 the City of Ceuta presented to the CHS a report by the local body responsible for civil protection and extended by municipal technicians on the possible negative consequences arising in the area if a flood occurred in the river.

"Furthermore, in the meeting we had last week with the CHS and municipal representatives of the Vega Media mayor, Juan Felipe Cano, and I remember the hazard before the rains this time," says Hernandez.

Thus, the City will lead the legal actions of those affected by the floods and is now drafting the document to be presented within days.

"We call on those affected to get in touch with the Department to make a common front against this situation," says the mayor, that abounds in this area.

"We do not understand that in such a complicated situation of the river Segura as it passes through Ceuta, contrasted with the corresponding technical reports, the cleanup of the margin has begun CHS by Contraparada" says Hernandez.
