The Civil Guard dismantled a clandestine warehouse processing of horticultural products (17/12/2012)

1,500 kilos were frozen onion found at the entrance to the premises without proper hygiene

During the inspection were located six Moroccan workers without an employment contract, so the store manager has been arrested on suspicion of a crime against the rights of workers

The actions have been developed jointly by staff SEPRONA, Judicial Police, Public Health inspectors and labor inspectors

The Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia, in cooperation with inspectors from the Directorate General of Public Health of the Region of Murcia, and inspectors of the Ministry of Employment Labour and Social Security, have been dismantled, in the name of "Operation TEARS", a clandestine warehouse located in the town of Ceuta, which was produced and fried onions cooked without adequate health guarantees.

Furthermore, the result of the actions taken has been arrested on suspicion of a crime against the rights of workers, the manager of the activity, as inside the premises were found at the time of the inspection, six women Moroccan nationals lacking the mandatory employment contracts and working conditions were inadequate.

At the entrance of the proceedings, have been detained a total of 1,500 kilograms of onions that did not meet hygienic conditions.

The investigations began after SEPRONA staff had learned of the existence of a warehouse located in the town of Ceuta where they were carrying out work in food processing irregularly.

Finding the store and the first site survey

On arrival at the company premises, officers discovered more than a ton of onions stockpiled in the street, next to the warehouse door.

After the first unsuccessful attempts to access the local SEPRONA staff gained access to the interior thereof, discovering in place six women of Moroccan nationality who were manipulating raw material for further processing or cooked like fried onions.

Women lacked the corresponding contract.

During the first inspection, the officers found, in addition, how the facility lacked the necessary permits to operate, and the lack of minimal hygiene processes in food processing and the lack of adequate security of workers of the company.

Given the seriousness of the facts, law SEPRONA required the support of their colleagues in the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police and inspectors collaboration Food Safety Service of the Directorate General of Public Health of the Autonomous Community of the Region Murcia and Labour Inspectorate of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, all of which appeared at the site shortly after, finding serious irregularities found by the SEPRONA.

By the regional administration inspectors proceeded to immobilization for subsequent destruction, of the 1,500 kilograms of onions located.

Arrested

As part of the investigation, and suspicion of a crime against the rights of workers, has been identified as the person detained:

- 52-year-old resident in Murcia (Murcia).

By SEPRONA have proceeded to make appropriate administrative complaints about the lack of environmental permits and the serious health deficiencies found in the warehouse inspected.

Likewise, the actions taken by the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police for the crime against the rights of workers have been brought to justice.
