The eighth cycle of The Canning focuses on the research stage and exhibition format (03/02/2012)

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, today the eighth cycle of exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Center, The Canning, with samples of the artists Abraham Hurtado, Lotar Hempel, Matthew Ronay, Aparicio and Oriol Saelia Nogues.

The exhibition will open at 13:00 am after a performance artist in The Canning Nogués Oriol (Ceuta).

This afternoon in Room Veronicas (Murcia), opens the exhibition of Austrian Markus Schindwald at 20:00.

The artists reflect on their exhibitions around the stage as exhibition format and its relationship with the theater, dance, contemporary and ancestral rites.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism said the uniqueness of the cycle "is one of the most interesting current bets on the national and European level."

He further stressed that these exhibitions are held in the Canning, "a center that we are very proud that it has become a benchmark for contemporary art."

Space 1 home 'FAKEless' the artist Abraham Hurtado Murcia (Murcia, 1972), an exhibition which invites the viewer to walk a labyrinth in which, after a small concrete walls 14 are hidden and white portraits projected black from ceiling to floor.

The artist aims and explore the concepts of presence and space to reflect on the memory of the face and future potential arising from each experience.

The German Lothar Hempel (Cologne, 1966) presents his first solo exhibition in Spain, 'Opium', in Space 2, where there are three sculptures from 2009-2011 and six new works, among which a series of paintings with a novel technique.

Also, tomorrow, during the inauguration, a group of dancers will be a performance at the exhibition space itself.

For his first solo exhibition in Spain, Matthew Ronay (Louisville, Kentucky, USA, 1976) present in the space 3 of the Canning fantastic environments and objects created during two years in an exhibition titled 'Between the Worlds'.

The sample consists of two projects reflective about death, sacrifice and stupidity on one hand, a carrier with black cloth hanging dome refers to archetypal sites of passage to adulthood as a self-knowledge needed to reach.

On the other hand, 12 items, produced by The Canning-function as a kind of cemetery, looking into the Puritan notion of work as prayer.

Every Saturday, from 12:00 to 14:00, the exhibition will be activated by the 'performers'.

The Space Floor 4 is 'San Borondón' artist's proposal Saelia Aparicio (Avila, 1982), formulated from setting to differentiate between true and false.

Collective Action

Tomorrow at 12:00 pm in the Patio 2 of the Canning will be a collective action Oriol Nogues for the citizens of Ceuta.

The performance is intended to be a picture / story of the people who act, the citizens of Ceuta in this case, the proposal being the result of a symbolic construction of identity elements from the town.

The event will feature bands of trumpets and drums of St. Mary Magdalene, St. John the Evangelist and Christ's Blood, Primores Classroom, Pensioner's Club, the Rock 'Tomato', the Belfry Santa Maria Magdalena church and Pyrotechnics Murcia SL (Archena).
