Municipal Auditorium Ceutí scheduled a demonstration of spectacular experiments related to the low temperatures and icy states caused by controlled chemical reactions, which were shown to the public on Sunday January 2.
The liquefaction of air with a temperature of about -200 ° C, was one of the experiments the program, which showed the fractional distillation of oxygen and nitrogen and the contact of the latter in liquid with different objects.
With the so-called "Hero Engine", the experiments focused on the sudden expansion of gases and their application to combustion engine, and the process of embrittlement of metals "showed how these rigid elements change their structure to refrigerate due to increased condensation on its surface, to the point of being literally reduced to smithereens with a mild stroke.
Tests were also conducted organic bodies to bring them into contact with liquid nitrogen, subjected to its action to flowers and rubber balls to observe its consequences.
During the session, there were two curious examples of the different uses of liquid nitrogen, such as making ice cream bulbs and also to imitate the fog as a result of heat absorption of water vapor to reach thermal equilibrium with the container that contains it.
