About 500 irrigators of the Vega Media, belonging to the Community of irrigators Zone V of Ceutí, have more than 1.4 hectometres of water reused from the sewage treatment plant (WWTP) of Las Torres de Cotillas.
The Community has subsidized with 1.126.070 euros this project that is based on the connection, regulation and distribution of the reclaimed water from the WWTP to its primary irrigation network.
The total budget of the work has been 2,252,141 euros.
With this investment, the necessary infrastructure for the use of water has been undertaken, so that the Community of Irrigators can use it to irrigate their plots, mostly citrus and fruit crops.
The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Angel del Amor, stressed that "these waters regenerated by the WWTP come to complement the only endowment of the Tajo-Segura transfer that this community of irrigators has".
These aids are contemplated within the framework of the Rural Development Program (RDP) of the Region of Murcia, to the extent of the use of wastewater for irrigation, and are financed by 63 percent by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). ), 25.90 percent for the Autonomous Community and 11.10 percent for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
