Ceutí prepares its twinning with the town of Downpatrick norilandesa (17/06/2010)

A delegation from the town of Downpatrick norilandesa has visited Ceuta and then the process continues to engage both locations friendship, and has met with the mayor, Manuel González, and other members of his team to finalize the partnership.

Answering another visit by members of the twinning committee of Ceuta to the city on 17 March when Ceutí participated, along with delegations from seven other countries, in the famous parade St. Patrick's Day.

The Downpatrick twinning committee visited several cultural, sporting and educational Ceutí, including public school Diego Martinez Rico, whose younger students welcomed the British delegation with songs in English, as well as questions in the same language on this city by the students of advanced courses.

Following a meeting with management and the downtown AMPA, it was agreed to launch a project for exchanging e-mails and conversations via webcam between ceutiense school students and those of St Patrick's Primary School.

The intention of both parties is to start as soon as possible to arrange exchanges of citizens.

Then the delegation was received at the City of Ceuta by the mayor and councilors Manuel González López Presentation and Sonia Almela, meeting at which the document was signed to begin the process of twinning between Ceuta and Downpatrick.

Downpatrick is a town similar in size to Ceuta and almost equal population located in Northern Ireland, an hour from Belfast.

This is one of the oldest cities in Ireland.

On a hill on which stands a Gothic cathedral where St. Patrick is buried since 461, his tomb becomes every March 17th place of pilgrimage.
